Introduction

Through the Doctor of Philosophy program, the Bliss-Parsons Institute offers the independent, self-motivated student an opportunity to receive guidance, feedback, and recognition of intellectual achievement.

Course Requirements

The course begins with the reading and review of a required text. This is followed by the reading and review of 3 books of the student’s selection. The capstone of the program is the submission of a 30 to 100-page dissertation. As this is a rather nebulous area of study, these are open-ended papers with a lot of latitude given for personal reflection. We encourage creative thought and the exploration of exciting ideas. There are no examinations. We believe that the content of the papers will provide sufficient evidence of competency in the chosen field of study.

PhDs granted by the Bliss-Parsons Institute are not accredited by any accrediting entity. What this means is that if you attempt to use your PhD as a credential for obtaining employment with any agency requiring a degree from an accredited institution, it will not be accepted.  However, please also remember that the “New Thought” and/or “New Age” industry is one of the fastest growing industries on the planet right now and that a credible PhD in Metaphysics will carry weight in those circles. At any rate, you will be able to add “Dr.” to your name and your correspondence, and you should be proud of your accomplishment. The obtaining of any higher degree shows great initiative on anyone’s part.
